UNITED cruised to a 5-0 win at Bishop’s Stortford in the first round of the FA Trophy.
Ryan Bowman got the Gulls underway with an early goal and then added a second five minutes before half-time.
Luke Young virtually sealed the win on 54 minutes and late goals from Duane Ofori-Acheampong and Jordan Chapell completed a happy day at the office.
"To score five goals is very pleasing and we punished Bishop's Stortford when we needed to," said manager Chris Hargreaves. "It was a tough game because they threw a lot of bodies into box and they moved the ball forward quickly.
"At times, we carved through them and our front six players can do that."
Bowman got the party started with a stabbed effort from Young's cross and the Gulls forced a few more saves from Bishop's goalkeeper David Gregory before Bowman converted his second from a pass by Toby Ajala.
A low left-foot strike by Young was the perfect start to the second period and Ofori-Acheampong benefited from Bowman's unselfish work to grab number four. Chapell completed the scoring with a sweet strike.
