The Gulls travel back from league leaders Bishops Lydeard with a point in a game in which TULFC dominated.
We welcomed back Beth Marshall in between the sticks who missed the previous league fixture and captain Alex Sheppard returning from injury. The yellows started brightly dictating the pace of play from the start. Sian Chapman picked the ball up within the first 30 seconds and unleashed a shot from range, narrowly going wide. Almost instantly Daisy Self did the same, linking up well with Jana Richards in the middle. The game started to settle with the midfield from both sides seeing a lot of the ball and battling well. Carmen Thornton screened the defence well picking up the second balls, and the back 3 dealt with any Bishops attacks with no hesitations. Sarah Smith, Adele Rogers and captain Sheppard were over powering the Bishop attacks. On 40 minutes Danni Wyatt made way for Niamh Farrell on the right who slotted in and tracked back instantly. Emma Mingo continued to work hard up front heading down balls and holding the ball up for the wingers to get involved in play.
Half Time 0-0
Second half changes saw Chloe Walters come off due to a slight injury, being replaced by Charlotte Dymond. Richards went out to the left wing, Chapman dropped into the middle and Dymond accompanied Mingo up front. Dymond made an instant impact with her pace and quick feet, playing some superb through balls to Mingo who was unlucky not to score today. Against the run of play the Bishops midfield got the ball and played a defence splitting pass to the number 10 who slotted past Marshall at the far post.
In the 65th minute Thornton took a knock and was replaced by Vicki Fannon as a like for like swap. The games momentum was in TULFCs favour. Richards and Farrell were enjoying lots of space and time down either wing and were creating lots of chances for the yellows. On 75 minutes Richards picked the ball up out on the left, took a step inside and from 20 yards unleashed a strike which lobbed the Bishops Lydeard keeper which resulted in emphatic celebrations and a much deserved goal for the Gulls. With the run of play in TULFCs favour chance after chance came, Dymond and Mingo unlucky again. Self put the ball in the net from 10 yards only for the referee to blow up for offside.
Final result 1-1
Manager Craig Kendall had this to say after the final whistle was blown.
“Really pleased with today's performance but disappointed not to get what we deserved which was all 3 points after putting that shift in. Things are coming along nicely with a new squad with lots of potential and talent. We face Middlezoy away next Sunday where we look to pick up 3 points and move our way up the league,” said Craig.
