Over £2,000 raised for girls' programme

TORQUAY United Community Sports Trust (TUCST) have benefitted to the tune of just over £2,000 from the Co-op Local Community Fund.

Co-op members have the option to donate 1% of their spend on Co-op own brand products to local causes. Shiphay Co-op manager, Geoff Wood, and his staff presented a cheque to Head of TUCST, Craig Hutcheson for £2,134 on Wednesday.

“We’re delighted with the money that was raised – just over £2,000,” said Craig.” We’ll put that towards our girls' programmes that we are expanding. The money will come in useful and we’d like to thank Shiphay Co-op and their customers very much.”

“We’ve had three different charities locally, but the Co-op Local Community Fund has raised £9 million nationwide, said Shiphay Co-op manager, Geoff Wood.

“It’s brilliant to meet the charities involved. It makes them more than just a picture on a poster.”

TUCST may enter into a new round of the fund soon.

“We’re going to look at entering a volunteer programme in the next round of funding,” said Craig.
