A match is coming to Plainmoor on May 6th (kick-off 12:30pm) that will bring together two very special teams.
Ex-Torquay United trainee Mark Forrester has organized a match between a team made up of players that were coached by ex-Torquay United player/Youth coach/1st team manager, Paul Compton, and players that played in our 2004 promotion squad.
Compton played for the Club from 1984-86, and then went on to manage the Club in 1990. He then returned to Plainmoor in 1998 to head up the youth system. In 2000 he left Plainmoor to go to Swansea and went on to coach at Cardiff City and West Bromwich Albion. He currently works in the Premier League as part of Southampton’s youth department.
During Compton’s three spells as youth coach at Torquay United he helped produce many players that went onto very successful careers. One such player was defender Darren Moore, who went on to play for West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League. United’s graduates during Compton's time earned the Club around £1.5 million in player sales.
There will be no set entry fee, but fans are requested to give a donation at the turnstile to Rowcroft Hospice.
“It started out just being a meet up for drinks and then some of the lads wanted a game so we thought we’d set one up to benefit Rowcroft Hospice,” said Mark.
We have an early unconfirmed list of players from both sides:
‘Compo’s Boys’: Darren Moore, Scott Colcombe, Wayne Thomas, Chris Myers, Tony Bedeau, Ryan Northmore, Luke Guttridge, Steve Tully, Troy Douglin, Mark Jermyn, Gareth Law, Adrian Foster
