Kevin Nicholson spoke about what is needed to survive in the National League at today’s press call.
On the points total required to stay in the National League:
“50 points is historically where we need to get to and football has a funny way of sticking to its own rules like that. I think Lincoln, or Tranmere, or Forest Green Rovers are going to need 95 points to win it [the league] and I think someone at the bottom is going to need 50 to stay up.
The Gaffer is relieved that Myles Anderson will only be absent for one game, and not three, after his sending off against Chester on Saturday. Anderson was penalised with ‘denying a goalscoring opportunity’ and will only sit out Saturday’s match.
“I was pretty sure it was only going to be one [game]” said Nicholson.
“It’s just another test, it’s just another hurdle to get over but we have plenty of options to come in and cover that.”
On Courtney Richards being ruled out for the rest of the season:
“I was a bit surprised that it ruled him out for the season but it was something that was quite deep in the muscle that you couldn’t find on a preliminary check. If it wasn’t for the scan then we would have probably never have known and it is unfortunate for Courtney.
“I spoke to him [Richards] yesterday and I think he just needs a few days to clear his head, lick his wounds, and get himself over the fact that that’s the end of him physically contributing but I think come the weekend he’ll be there to make sure he’s the captain I expect him to be.
“We have got the players in that position to make sure that we get the job done and we’ve just got to do it with less cover than what we had. It would be boring if it was easy!”
