THE Gulls travel to Bideford tonight for a friendly that will double up as a scouting mission for manager Martin Ling.
While working on the fitness of his squad, Martin is also casting an eye over George Artemi, who played in the Tiverton friendly, former Yellow trainee Carl Baker and ex-Swindon defender Jerel Ifil.
“We will go back to two different sides for each 45 minutes and we will have three trialists playing in the game, which will be George Artemi, Carl Baker, a left-winger who has been with us for a couple of days, and Jerel Ifil, who came down yesterday,” said Martin.
“Jerel is a centre-half, who has been at Swindon for six years and has a decent career record. He hasn’t got a club at this moment and asked to train with us to see if he can make a difference at centre-half.
“If there is anyone playing more than 45 minutes because we’re short on numbers, it will be the trialists and not my senior players.
“Aaron Downes won’t play at all because he has played a lot of football early in the season with Yeovil and a trial at Wimbledon, so we will leave him out.
“Danny Stevens will play a half but Joe Oastler is still unavailable because of his nose, but he will play with a splint against Stoke on Monday. Nathan Craig has a tender foot after a whack and Saul Halpin has seen a specialist because the x-ray on his ankle showed a possibly more serious injury.”
