UNITED are set to complete the signing of right-back Dale Tonge on a free transfer.
The former Barnsley and Rotherham defender has been in negotiations with the Gulls for the last fortnight and, as with striker Elliot Benyon, he will sign for the club subject to a medical on Wednesday.
One of the major factors for manager Alan Knill is a willingness for new recruits to fully embrace the area and Dale is certainly fitting that bill.
‘’It is around two weeks since we brought Dale down to the area and in between that we did worry it might not work, but, once again, it was so important that a player fully commits to coming here,’’ said Alan.
‘’Dale and his girlfriend are going to move down to the area and have a real go. I wanted some experience at the back, somebody who knew the league and a real good athlete, which is what Dale can do.
‘’He will run all day and quickly take us from defending to attacking. He has knowledge of the league and really wants to prove people wrong, which is a player I really like. I know Dale has something to prove and we will give him that platform.’’
