THE wait is finally over and the United players are itching to kick-off the new League 2 season at Fleetwood Town on Saturday afternoon.
Full-back Joe Oastler has enjoyed a busy summer after becoming a father for the first time but his focus will be on a positive start for the Gulls, and immediately banishing the memory of Tuesday’s Capital One Cup loss to Leicester.
“It is a game we’ve been looking forward to all through pre-season,” said Joe. “It’s been a long journey but we’re ready for them.
“We had a disappointing game on Tuesday night and we weren’t happy with how we played. We needed a big kick up the backside and we’re ready for Fleetwood.
“It was strange to play a Cup game before the League campaign has started but we didn’t perform on the night. Personally, it was probably my worst game in a Torquay shirt, so perhaps it’s good to get that out of the way.
“The most important game is tomorrow and getting a good start to the season. We know their fans and players will be up for it, and we expect a lively atmosphere. They’ve also got big Jon Parkin up front and that will be another challenge.
“I am feeling good myself, although there are a couple of bags under my eyes after the arrival of baby Frankie. He is a good lad and I’m enjoying life at the moment.”
