Lifelong United fan, punk aficionado and raconteur Simon Cavanna gives us a run down on the numerous away grounds that the Gulls will visit this season. This week he runs the rule over the trip to Salisbury City on Monday 13th April 2009:

SALISBURY CITY FC

Raymond McEnhill Stadium, Partridge Way, Old Sarum, Salisbury, Wiltshire, SP4 6PU

Approx 120 miles from Plainmoor 3 ¼ hrs coach journey.

Directions

Exit the A303 at the Countess Roundabout / Amesbury Junction and carry on through the town onto the A345. Continue towards Salisbury, past the turn off to Boscombe Down on the left, up the hill and through the traffic lights at High Post (a hotel and nightclub are on your right) and carry on down to the Beehive junction roundabout (Park & Ride). There is a large white sign, clearly marked 'football ground' in brown writing at the bottom. Turn left, through the first small roundabout and then left into Partridge Way.

NOTE: The road into the ground was VERY busy last season, so it would be advisable to allow yourself more time getting to the Stadium

Train

Salisbury station is 3 miles from the ground and a taxi is the only viable option for the Easter Monday game.

Admission

Adults: £13, Concessions (senior citizens/students/unemployed) £9, Under 21's £7, Under 16's £3

Ground

Gulls fans will be housed on the Hop Back side of the ground and behind the goal at the open end. There is also a small allocation of seats available in the Main Stand for a £2 transfer fee.

Beware if it has been raining, as the approach through to the visitors entrance last season looked like a scene from Glastonbury! The wet mud strewn car park and temporary fencing along with the portaloo's resembled the entrance to a music festival!

Refreshments

The one refreshment hut was wholly inadequate to cope with the amount of Gulls fans last time. If you're hungry, it would be advisable to eat before you get to the ground or you may spend more time in a queue than watching the game!

Pre match refreshment

Gulls fans were not allowed in the social club last season and there are no real alternatives near the ground as the McEnhill Stadium is in the middle of nowhere.

There are however plenty of shopkeepers and publicans in the centre of Salisbury who are only too happy to accept your custom. The Kings Head is a Wetherspoons pub and was very accommodating last season http://www.jdwetherspoon.co.uk/pubs/pub-details.php?PubNumber=4334

The Chough http://www.pub-explorer.com/wiltshire/pub/choughsalisbury.htm across the square, (which caused mirth and merriment last season) was also frequented by Gulls supporters' last time out. In truth, there are a lot of outlets in the centre of town and those frequented were all very welcoming.

NOTE: One thing to bear in mind that the ground is 3 miles from Salisbury centre, so give yourself time to get to the game!

Parking

There is a car park at the ground (which was full to bursting last season) and charges £2 per car.

When the fixtures came out, this was one of the first games that Gulls fans looked for when planning a day out. Almost a local derby!

Last season we had supporters trying (badly) to do "keepy up's" with a cube shaped ball then diving in the mud to compound the moment, a disappointing 0-0 draw, an unfortunate incident with an inflatable palm tree, then later in the evening inSalisbury city centre an even more unfortunate incident with some chilli vodka!

With the game this season on Easter Monday, expect an even larger away following for the Gulls
