THE GOAL JUST WOULDN'T COME

United 0 Barnet 1
A frustrated Paul Buckle spoke after United's 1-0 home defeat at Plainmoor at the hands of Barnet: 'It was a tough game especially in the first half, neither team was giving too much away and it was ironic that it was a freak goal that separated the teams at half -time. I wasn't overjoyed with the way we played in the first forty-five minutes but Barnet were sitting tight and looking as though they had come here for a draw.
'We found ourselves a goal down at the break but in the second half there was only one team in it. We pushed forward and played some good football but the goal just wouldn't come.'
Bucks made an early change during the match when he replaced centre back Chris Todd in the 33rd minute and he explained that decision: 'I felt that the free-kick Toddy conceded was borderline sending off to be honest and I didn't think Chris could get through the match having picked up a yellow card early on. I've got Chris Robertson who can play centre back and I've got Lee Mansell on the bench to play right back so I wasn't afraid to make the change. I felt it was a positive move, I thought we got the ball wide an awful lot in the second half and caused Barnet untold problems. Their gaffer was telling them to keep the ball in the dugout which was a reflection of how much pressure they were under and I'm not sure if hiding the ball in the dugout is the way to go forward but there you go.'
