Torquay United 1 Northampton Town 0
United boss Paul Buckle spoke to the press after United's excellent 1-0 victory over in-form Northampton at Plainmoor: 'I thought we earned the right to win the game today, we really dug in. We know it's going to be hard and we know we are going to be up against good sides. There is still a lot of work to be done to build a good League 2 team at Plainmoor but I have got to say today that that win has been coming for a long time and I'm very proud of the players.
'Jake Thomson did very well, he commits people and had a good debut, he runs at people and he pushed Northampton back. I was very pleased with the way we started the game, I thought we could have had a couple of goals. It was end-to-end stuff but that is how we play and we went all-out to win the game.
'It feels very good to get a win, there has been an awful lot happening this season, trying to get players in, moving players out on loan and some other distractions that I have had but this win has been on the cards. I'm very pleased that we are now on a good unbeaten run ourselves, we are undefeated now in six or seven games so we have something to build on. This season we don't deserve to be where we are, we create chances although we have struggled to hit the back of the net at times but the win was always going to come.'
Gulls skipper and match winner Chris Hargreaves was clearly delighted with the win but was understandably respectful of one of his former clubs: 'Obviously, I'm really pleased that we have won the game although I'm a bit disappointed it was against Northampton. I don't want to see them do badly, I loved the club while I was there and I got on with the fans really well and I want them to be successful but I'm at a club now where I want to do well. Today I'm delighted for the staff, the manager and the players because we have put in a hell of a shift over the last month with no reward.
'There is a very good feeling in the dressing room, we have finally been rewarded for our efforts and I'm pleased for all of them, not just the lads who have played today but all of the squad. We have now got to continue in the same vein, a lot of the teams we have played we have probably been better than but you have got to stick the ball in the back of the net.'
