United 2 Accrington 1

A very pleased Paul Buckle spoke to the press after United's first win of the year, a 2-1 home victory over Accrington: 'On reflection we deserved to win the game, credit must go to the players who I am delighted for because they have battled right to the end and got what their reward. We are now three unbeaten and it has been a very positive week for us. We have remained focused during the winless run, there was no point in panicking, and we are trying to get up the league as far as we can.

'We have been backed by some fabulous support again today because with the score 1-1 the team needed them and they responded. It was just what we needed, everyone together supporting the team on the pitch.

United were boosted by the return to action in the second half after injury of Wayne Carlisle and it was a performance not unnoticed by Bucks: 'Wayne hasn't played in five weeks and has only had two or three days training but he is always up for a fight and when you are playing against these top teams you need people like Wayne around and he did very well. The whole team have been superb this last week at Rotherham and Cheltenham and then at Plainmoor this afternoon we have gained five excellent points We have another big game on Tuesday against Dagenham and we have all got to come back to Plainmoor with a positive attitude around the place.

Lathaniel Rowe-Turner was booked for a tackle in the second half which caused some anger on the Accrington bench but Bucks thought the referee made the correct decision by not showing a red card: 'We had several good chances in the first half today and we could still do with being more ruthless in front of goal but none of us stopped believing that things would go our way. It was a physical game today and although Lathaniel's tackle wasn't great he didn't go in high. I know John (Coleman) wasn't happy with the challenge but I'm really not sure it was more than a booking. It was a competitive game and Accrington play in the image of John because they give it everything they have got. I know John quite well and he is a good man with a team that take some beating so we are delighted with the result today.'
