We Gifted Lincoln The Game

United 2 Lincoln City 3
United boss Paul Buckle was left frustrated after Lincoln City travelled home with all three points from thier League 2 encounter: 'I thought we gifted Lincoln the game today which is unlike us because we have been watertight of late. I can't remember Scott Bevan having to make a save all afternoon. It was our mistakes for their goals and we showed great character to come back and we should have got something out of the game.
'The way things went was very frustrating for everyone, we honestly thought we were not only going to get back on level terms but actually go on and win the game, missed chances has been the story of our season. We have never lacked the quality to create chances but you saw again today that we struggle at times to put the ball in the back of the net. We had some unbelievable chances at the end but couldn't quite hit the target but when we did their 'keeper has pulled off some amazing saves. I can't fault the players for their commitment but I feel that we have thrown away our good today and we need to get back to business next week.
'I thought Mustapha (Carayol) was great today and looking at us going forward we were a threat every time we got the ball but we gifted them their goals. You can't legislate for the boy coming in from the right and wiggling his way through for their second goal and you can't legislate for our centre back slipping over, I felt sorry for Mark Ellis on that one, I certainly didn't bring him off for that I brought him off because we needed to go for it. I knew Lincoln weren't playing with any wingers they were just trying to look after their lead so (Kevin) Nicholson had a free reign hitting balls forward and I thought that worked. I'm always happy with Kevin going forward he is excellent at that but he has found this level difficult when faced against quick wingers so that has been the reason that Kevin hasn't been in the side. Certainly today he has come on and done everything asked of him, he didn't have an opponent up against him so he could use that left foot that we have seen over the last two years with good affect and he was unlucky not to score.
'It was a big lesson for the players today; you can't give chances away at this level even to teams that are in and around us because they will punish you.
'We are still looking to bring someone in before the transfer window closes, we are low on numbers because we have lost Wayne Carlisle for about six weeks with a knee operation plus Lloyd Macklin is going back to Swindon Town, Ashley Barnes was recalled and Kieran Charnock is still out so we are down to the bare bones now. We are looking to bring someone in but it is proving difficult. There is no truth in a rumour about signing Wright from Histon, there is nothing going to happen on that.'
