Our Effort Was Rewarded

United 5 Rochdale 0

United boss Paul Buckle was delighted with the thrashing of leaders Rochdale at Plainmoor but is already focused on the important match at Aldershot on Tuesday evening: 'We have had games both here at Plainmoor and away from home where we have played very well and got little for our troubles but today our effort was rewarded, we took our chances and thoroughly deserved to win the match. We had to work hard but I would be angry if the team didn't do that and our shape was good which forced Rochdale across the pitch and backwards. We counter attacked well and the game plan worked, we finished our chances when there have been games this season where we haven't done that. We got it right today from back to front and an awful lot of credit must go to the players for collecting seven points in the last week.

'This team is full of players who have come out of the non-league and it has taken time for them to get used to this level and over the last three matches you have seen some continuity. We have been able to field the same line-up for those three games and the players are adapting. I really don't believe we deserve to be where we are, Keith Hill is a top professional and brought his team here giving us full respect and they have come up against a Torquay United side playing very well who were at it with and without the ball.

'We have played three good sides in the last seven days and we have got things right but it is important that with the five games we have left starting with Aldershot on Tuesday night we are at our best again.

Scott Bevan has a thigh injury and we didn't want to risk keeping him on but right now we don't know the extent of the injury. We are lucky to have another top 'keeper in Michael (Poke) who came on and played as if he hadn't been away.'
