United boss Paul Buckle spoke to us this afternoon and gave his reaction to the signing of a new contract by stiker Elliot Benyon and his own summer transfer target intentions: 'We have put two years of hard work into Elliot's development. We invested in him when he left Bristol City because we thought that there was a player with potential and in turn Elliot has progressed very nicely. The important thing now is that he pushes on again this coming season along with the other players, keeps developing and nails down a regular place in the team. Elliot has now got to step forward and prove to me that he is worthy of a starting place week in and week out.

'I have to give every one of the players who helped promote this club last season every chance to stay at this club. They have earned the right and proved that they were capable and I have been true to my word in telling the players when I signed them that they were good enough to play in the league above. That isn't to say we don't need to add because we do but, certainly, they are the lads who have done it for me and done it for the football club and I am pleased to have Elliot on board along with all the other lads. Hopefully Chris Robertson will agree to sign and that will complete all the in-house business.

Paul is actively looking to bolster his squad ahead of the visit of Chesterfield on August 8th but the Gulls' boss is in no mood to rush things: 'There are a couple of things on the go but we have got a team in place and anything new has got to be right. It has to be the right players and add quality. That can sometimes take a little time and we aren't going to be rushed into anything.

With the Dorchester fixture now confirmed for July 31st Paul seemed very happy with the pre-season schedule: 'We may have room for one more fixture but what we have in place will be a series of good tests for us. We will be ready come the first game against Chesterfield; the players will be fully prepared.'

Don't forget you can meet Paul along with United skipper Chris Hargreaves and top scorer Tim Sills at Boots & Laces this coming Monday, 6th July between 6pm and 8pm and have a professionally taken photograph stood alongside the play-off trophy to purchase and take home on the night.
