Gulls' defender Chris Todd believes the club still has a winning mentality following last season's promotion success.

United beat visitors Chesterfield 2-0 on the opening day of the season with goals from Lee Mansell and debutant Scott Rendell.

Todd said: "Everything is going well at the moment. The good atmosphere has carried over from last year.

"The boss is a great motivator and he can really take the club forward. We're going from strength to strength."

Todd was speaking on the latest Coca-Cola Football League podcast.

The centre-half was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukaemia in November.

He said: "Physically I feel like a million dollars. I'm on medication which has really helped and fingers crossed I'll keep improving.

"The support has been incredible. I cannot thank people enough as it has got me through some of the darker moments."

Also on the podcast this week, host Mark Clemmit talks to Blackpool legend Jimmy Armfield and Queens Park Rangers coach Marc Bircham.

Colchester United midfielder David Fox joins on the phone to discuss his side's incredible 7-1 win at Norwich City.

The podcast is available to download now from The Football League website, iTunes and Coke Zone.
