 Torquay United v Lincoln City

Saturday 20th March - kick-off 3.00pm

Midfielder Wayne Carlisle is expected to miss out on United's match with Lincoln at the weekend after suffering another reaction to his knee injury. The winger played in the 1-1 draw with Crewe last Saturday but boss Paul Buckle isn't hopeful that his experienced winger will be available: 'We are still without Michael Poke and Kieran Charnock and it looks as though we may also be without Wayne Carlisle which is a big disappointment because Wayne gives us stability in the wide areas. I thought both Wayne and Chris Zebroski did very well against Crewe. He will be a big loss but I have always said that these situations give an opportunity to someone else, we a number of players who can step in and I'm sure whoever gets selected will come in and perform.'

Paul also spoke about the situation regarding out of contract players at Plainmoor: 'We spoke to the players around Christmas time and also looked at our situation and decided that some changes were needed. Players left the club which was correct and we have offered players contracts but a lot of players now have agents who can become very annoying at times. It is sometimes healthy when players don't have a contract sorted and with nothing guaranteed they put even more effort in. We have offered new contracts to some of the squad and in many cases negotiations are still ongoing.'

'We aren't safe yet, we know that, but we are looking at the teams above us rather than looking over our shoulder and we have a great opportunity on Saturday to stretch the uneaten run to seven games. We have been a little naive at times, especially during the closing stages of some games when we have needed to see things out but we have also created plenty of chances, I would like to see the statistics on that because I'm sure we would be up there. We have been in with a chance in just every game and now the young players we have are stepping up to the mark required. The simple reason that we have narrowly missed out in games is our finishing.

'Getting a top notch striker is what costs the money; it is no secret that we were able to attract a top Conference striker like Tim Sills because we were looking strong in that division but the situation is a little different now, there a lot bigger teams in League 2 than us so we are up against it when it comes to having the pick of the better players but eleven goals so far from Elliot Benyon is a good return and having Scott Rendell back is a big plus. Our goal difference would suggest that the games we are involved in are tight and we have had to dig in during many games. We are working very hard and if we continue to put the effort in and perform we will keep the run going and move up the league table.

'A striker will be our number one priority in the summer, we went into this division blind in many ways and the players have done very well but we really do need to add something up top in the summer. We need to attract players of League 2 level and players from League 1 who aren't getting in at their current clubs. If you have strikers putting the ball in the net then you always have a good chance of winning games.'

United squad: Bevan; Nicholson, Ellis, Robertson, Mansell, Benyon, Rendell, Wroe, Thompson, Carayol, Stevens, Smith, Zebroski, O'Kane, Thomson, Branston, Rowe-Turner,  Camara, Macklin, Searle.
