United boss Paul Buckle will have to shuffle his pack ahead of the visit of Crewe this weekend after he lost loan forward Ashley Barnes who has been recalled by his parent club: ''We have lost Ashley Barnes who has been recalled by Plymouth but we got six good games out of Ashley and we wish him all the best but this leaves an opportunity for someone else now. Elliot (Benyon) came on and did very well at Darlington and having Scott Rendell back is a big plus. We have the option of replacing Ashley with another loan, that is a possibility with the budget but we have options now within the squad. Wayne Carlisle is back, he has trained well over the last two days and Lloyd Macklin is also training again but Kieran Charnock is still a doubt although he is out working hard with the physios. Michael Poke has broken down in training at Southampton, we got a phone call yesterday letting us know that his thigh injury still isn't quite right which is a worry but I've been told it may be ten days to recover so we will have to see. Scott Bevan has done very well working hard with Kenny Veysey and has stepped in and done everything asked of him.'
Despite the disappointment of losing Barnes, Bucks has a confident squad preparing to try and stretch their unbeaten run to half a dozen games: ''Our league position is looking more positive now and the players are showing a lot more confidence with every game and five unbeaten is a good return and a reward for the efforts put in on the training ground.
'No-one likes being at the wrong end of the table and we have been used over the last two years of challenging at the top and we have remained realistic and haven't resorted to laying the blame or infighting. We have been focused and I am a great believer in always being positive. Over recent matches we have started to do the basic things a lot better, we aren't playing the ball out so much and we have hit more forward balls and put more pressure on our opponent's penalty area. We have also been very strong in our own area with Guy Branston coming in and helping to stabilise things.
'We are going to be tested to the full on Saturday by Crewe, they scored four in midweek and they will be looking to come to Plainmoor and claim all three points and we will be doing everything in our power to stop that. Torquay United is a club thing, it's the fans, it's the staff, it's the players and if we continue to pull together we can go a long way.'
United squad: Bevan; Nicholson, Ellis, Robertson, Mansell, Benyon, Rendell, Wroe, Thompson, Carlisle, Carayol, Stevens, Smith, Zebroski, O'Kane, Thomson, Branston, Rowe-Turner, Camara, Macklin, Searle.
