16. MATT HOCKLEY

A local lad who progressed through the United youth system, Matt has been an established part of the Torquay squad for nearly a decade now, earning a reputation as a fearless and combative player who always gives 110%. Having made his 1^st team debut at the age of 18, 'Hockers' is a valuable squad player who can cover many positions within the team.

Matt has made most of his 200+ United appearances in central midfield, although he can also operate at the full-back position, and is usually asked to performing the ball-winning duties in the heart of the pitch. His most productive season in 2003/04 saw him miss only 1 league game all season, and he contributed 5 goals during that campaign as well.

Despite being aged just 25 years old, Matt is one of the more experienced midfielders at the club and has developed his game in recent seasons having played alongside the likes of Alex Russell and Jason Fowler in past years. Although not the tallest player, there is no doubting the size of Matt's heart and his hunger for the ball, and he signed a new contract in the summer of 2007.
