1.SIMON RAYNER
Giant Canadian goalkeeper Simon Rayner initially joined The Gulls on loan from Lincoln City towards the end of the 2006/07 season before signing a permanent 2 year deal with the club in the close season having been judged surplus to requirements at Sincil Bank.
Simon made his Torquay United debut in a 1 - 1 away draw at Chester City on March 2nd 2007, and he went on to make a further 9 appearances in the latter part of what turned out to be a turbulent season at Plainmoor. Despite some disappointing results, Simon was one of the players to emerge with enormous credit in what proved to be a futile battle against relegation and new manager Paul Buckle was quick to tie him down to a new contract this summer, as he began building a squad for the coming season.
A graduate of the highly regarded AFC Bournemouth Youth Scheme, Simon is still just 24 years old and will be hoping to establish himself as the Gulls first-choice goalkeeper having been awarded the Number 1 shirt. At 6 feet and 4 inches tall, he is an imposing figure who has already impressed United fans with his shot-stopping prowess and all round goalkeeping talent.
