United's youth team lost their Friday night friendly at Dartmouth in a physical encounter that also included the introduction of some of the Under 16 squad.

The Gulls took the lead in the first half thanks to an Ashley Yeoman penalty but the home side hit back to equalize before the break. The only goal of the second period went to Dartmouth and substitute 'keeper Mike Searle kept the score down by saving a Dartmouth penalty.

Manager Matt Williams had plenty of positives to take out of the match with a local senior side: 'We were trying to force the play too much in the first half, the ball was moving far to quickly from front to backand we were getting caught by balls over the top. It was a physical battle which was probably a good learning curve for the boys.

'We changed things to a 4-4-2 formation in the second half and gave a much better performance, we started to play some decent football and the Under 16 players who came on also tried to play the right way. We had one too many touches at times and the Dartmouth team were right down our throats at times, there were a few bumps and bruises afterwards but nothing to worry about.'

Left back Richard Westcott picked up an injury during the week which meant a starting place in the Gulls youth team against Dartmouth for ''thirtysomething'' youth coach Robbie Hererra!

United line-up: Fisher (Searle); Lang (Burnett), Milton (Kudi), Palmer, Hererra, Beattie (Clark), Yeoman (Ellis), Taylor, Micklewright, Hemming (Green), Spear.
