Torquay United v Norwich City
Wednesday 18th November - 7.30pm
£ 3 Adults
£ 1 Under 16's
United's youth team take on Norwich City at Plainmoor on Wednesday evening in the Second Round of the F.A. Youth Cup. United came through a hard fought First Round tie at VT and it took extra-time to cement a place in this round but manager Matt Williams is keen to keep preparations as normal as possible: 'We will prepare the same way as we do for any other game, this is certainly a bigger match for us as it is against one of the top youth teams in the country. We have gone through the set plays on Tuesday morning and the only slight difference is that this is an evening kick-off so they have to occupy themselves for the day but we have given them an itinerary to help them adjust from a usual morning kick-off in the Youth Alliance.
'The Youth Department has come a long way in two years, there is no doubt about it but I don't actually want to over-hype the game against Norwich. It's going to be a tough test, a good test for us. The boys want to pit themselves against the best and Norwich isn't far off that so this is an opportunity for all of us to see where we are at in the great scheme of things. This is another step on the road, whether we win or lose this game it won't change the focus we have in the department which is to develop footballers but, of course, we want to win against Norwich and for the players to enjoy the experience.
'The lads have earned the right to be here and hopefully every season will now bring games like this to Plainmoor and it will be a regular occurrence because this is what we all want.'
Norwich's Under 18's currently occupy second spot in their Premier League Academy Group, level on points with Arsenal and a point ahead of Chelsea's young charges.
Injury-wise things aren't too bad for United: centre back Nick Milton will have a fitness test on Wednesday but full back TJ Lang is definitely out after an operation on an ankle injury. Winger Saul Halpin, fresh from signing a professional contract, will return to the squad after spending the last two matches with the first team and midfielder Scott Taylor is fit again after getting a run out last weekend.
United squad: Searle (gk); Parish, Milton, Palmer, Westcott, Hemming, Beattie, Taylor, Halpin, Spear, Yeoman, Kudi, Bennett (gk), Fletcher, Mackin, Clark, Holland.
We would like to thank the Torquay United Supporters' Trust who have kindly sponsored the match ball for tonight's game. The match will be played to a finish on the night with extra-time & penalties if needed and with such cheap entrance prices you can bring the whole family! There will be food on sale and the bar in No. 10's will be open for refreshments.
