MARTIN Rice learned the goalkeeping art as a youngster at Exeter City and would spend his early years as a professional with the Grecians.

A switch to United arrived in 2007 and he would spend two years as a Gull before his release saw the superb shot-stopper drop down to non-League football with Truro City.

Upon his return to Plainmoor two summers ago, Martin has admitted the time away from full-time football had made him more determined than ever to cement a career in the professional game.

He started his first season back in TQ1 as understudy to Bobby Olejnik and formed an excellent goalkeeping unit with the Austrian and coach Kenny Veysey. He then worked alongside Michael Poke as United’s two main stoppers.

Last season was a watershed in Ricey’s career, as injury to Poke enabled him to become fully established as the Yellow number one. He ended the campaign by being named the Away Player of the Season and earned himself a new deal in the summer.
