A fantastic season was celebrated in style last night, as Torquay United’s Annual Presentation Evening was held at the Riviera International Centre, Torquay.

In what was a hugely entertaining evening, manager Gary Johnson took to the stage to provide a unique insight into the background behind his team’s march towards the National League South title, revealing some previously unseen footage from the training ground and inside the dressing room.

The evening also provided the club with the opportunity to present the players with the following awards:

Top Goalscorer: JAMIE REID

Jamie’s 32 goals, including 29 in the league, made him United’s primary goal threat throughout the season and ensured he finished the season as the most prolific Torquay striker in over 40 years. Reid’s feats also secured his place as the leading marksman in the division.

Young Player Of The Season: SAIKOU JANNEH

Saikou’s first season in senior football surpassed all expectations as the on-loan Bristol City striker’s partnership with Jamie Reid contributed an amazing 50 goals towards United’s success. With 18 goals in his own right, and many more assists, Janneh’s potential was rewarded as he was recalled by his parent club in the closing stages of the season.

Player Of The Season: JAMIE REID

As the club’s top scorer, Jamie may have been the obvious choice to receive the club’s Player Of The Season trophy, however in a field of outstanding candidates, it was Reid’s all-round contribution and work rate, in addition to his goals, that saw him receive the ultimate recognition from the Yellow Army.

Volunteer Of The Year: ANN SHEPHERD

In a first for the club, United provided an award to a volunteer that encapsulates all the hard work and dedication that has underpinned United’s championship-winning season. Ann has once again provided hours upon hours of work as a volunteer this season, and her legendary 50/50 ticket sales are just one of her many unseen, but hugely appreciated skills.

On behalf of the club and the award winners, we would like to thank everyone that voted for both the Young Player Of The Season and Player Of The Season Awards.

As well as the presentation of the above awards, Club Partner Pro:Direct provided attendees with a sneak preview of next season’s first-team kit, which pays homage to the club’s 120-year anniversary. Further details regarding next season’s kits will be revealed shortly.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the players, staff, supporters and sponsors that attended the evening, and made the night such a huge success.
