United striker Brett Williams has been appointed team captain.

It was announced at Tuesday night’s stadium presentation evening that our number 9 will wear the armband this season.

“Really pleased to appoint Brett,” said TUFC head coach Gary Owers. “I think he’s a player that influences the players in the dressing room in a really positive way. I’ve got a really good relationship with him. I like him as a lad and I like him as a player.

“I fancy him to get his goals and he is backed up in his captain’s role by Ryan Dickson, Asa Hall, Liam Davis. So I have got experience out there on the pitch and they’s all part of that team

“I hope the armband will get a little bit more out of him and I am looking forward to watching him lead the best in him.”

“It’s obviously an honour,” said Brett. “I’ve never been captain before so I know it is a big responsibility and I am happy to take it on.

“I’m looking forward to the season. The boys are behind me as well as everyone else. I just can’t wait to get going on Saturday.”
