The Club was saddened to hear recently of the passing of former Torquay United forward, Cliff Jackson, at the age of 76.

Jackson enjoyed a distinguished career  having also represented Swindon Town, Plymouth Argyle, and Crystal Palace. He was an important part of the Palace team that gained promotion to the top flight for the first time in 1969. He scored the winning goal in Palace’s 2-1 win over Fulham to clinch promotion.

In 1970, Jackson joined the Gulls where he spent four season and made 139 appearances. Played as either a winger or a striker, Cliff scored 15 goals for United and was known for being a class act on and off the field. In 1974 he left United to join Cambridge City.

Our thoughts go out to his family and friends at this sad time.
