Torquay United is delighted to announce that Jake Andrews has signed a pre-contract agreement to rejoin the Club on a two-year deal.

Midfielder Andrews, 21, proved a huge hit with the Yellow Army after joining on loan from Bristol City last season, making 32 appearances and scoring 12 goals, including a superb hat-trick in the 7-2 home win over Oxford City. His memorable second goal in the title-clinching 2-0 win over Eastbourne at Plainmoor in April will live long in the memory.

Jake also provided numerous assists for his teammates throughout the campaign, as Gary Johnson’s side surged towards the National League South title.

The United manager feels his signature is further proof of the club’s intent ahead of the 2019/20 season.

“It’s a fantastic signing,” said TUFC manager, Gary Johnson. “There’s a lot of clubs between Torquay United and Bristol City and Jakes’s chosen to come to us. I’m very happy because he scored a lot of goals, he has a lot of assists, and I know he can do it at the next level.

“Credit to the football club, because it’s the football club that’s won Jake Andrews. The main thing is with Jake is – he likes to enjoy his football. I think he really enjoyed his football this last season, as you could tell by his goal celebrations, and his celebrations after the game against Eastbourne and Hungerford.”

The player himself is also eager to prove himself at a higher level, after the success of last season.

“I’m delighted to come back,” said Jake. “As soon as the Gaffer showed an interest in me, then it was a case of the clubs agreeing. I’ve been waiting a long time for the deal to be completed – I’m delighted.

“I could have stayed at Bristol City and potentially gone out on loan again, but I feel that I’m ready for a new challenge.

“I’ve worked with the Gaffer for the last two years and he’s brought the best out of me and the Club is moving in the right direction.  It’s a club on the up and the Gaffer has brought in a winning mentality. With me coming back, and a few other people, we’ll be able to push on and get promoted.”

Jake is eager to return to the Club and his teammates.

“I’ve kept in touch with all of the lads and I’ve gone on a few day trips with a couple of them. It’s a great group so I can’t wait to get back into the mix.”

Welcome back Jake!
