Plymouth Parkway 1

Torquay United 1

Josh Gowling 88’

United completed their pre-season away trips with a 1-1 draw against Plymouth Parkway.

Player-manager Kevin Nicholson gave game time to youngsters Austen Booth, Tallan Mitchell, Torquay Academy player Harry Bell, and trialists Sean Downing and Rory Fallon.

The story of the game was simple; Plymouth Parkway scored fairly early in the first half, and then United spent the rest of the game trying to equalize.

Kevin Nicholson rang the changes at half-time, bringing on Ryan Higgins, Josh Gowling, Luke Young, Jake Gosling, and Jon-Paul Pittman. Keating replaced Rory Fallon in the 60th minute, with Bell replacing Nicholson in the 72nd.

Chances were few, however but for a last-ditch challenge for a Parkway defender, Ruairi Keating might have equalized much earlier than when Josh Gowling headed in a cross from Jon-Paul Pittman in the 88th minute.

Parkway proved a tough opponent and it could be argued that they deserved to win the game, but for not pushing too hard for a second goal. Once they had scored, they held back and stayed organized and compact.

We would like to thank Plymouth Parkway for their hospitality.

United now look forward to Friday night when Truro City visit Plainmoor, (kick-off 7:30pm | Adults £10 | Over 65s & NUS Card Holders £7.50 | U18s £5)
