Friday’s 2-0 win over Chester takes United nicely into Monday’s meet with Woking at Plainmoor (kick-off 3pm).

Goals from Rhys Murphy and Elliott Romain earned United three points which won’t mean much in isolation, but coupled with another in quick succession against the Cards, would allow United to make up more ground on teams immediately above them in the league.

There was a mixture of results on Friday’s round of National League – some went for United, and some against. Solihull Moors drew 0-0 with Aldershot at home and Hartlepool United pulled away from trouble and put Maidstone United back in relegation danger by beating them 2-1. Leyton Orient came out 3-1 winners over Guiseley while AFC Fylde beat Halifax 2-0. Barrow clinched a point at Boreham Wood in a 0-0 draw.

Woking suffered a 3-2 defeat on Friday to promotion chasing Macclesfield Town. The Cards looked like they had secured a point through goals from Charlie Carter and Reece Gregor-Cox before Danny Whitehead struck in the 4th minute of added on time. He followed up on what looked like Tyrone Marsh’s goal until his shot got stuck in the mud on the way to the goal line.

The Cards are in 19th place in the National with 44 points from 40 games. They welcomed back Louis Ramsay, Jordan Wynter, and Chez Isaac to their squad for Friday’s game. Reece Grego-Cox scored against Macclesfield after returning from international duty with Republic of Ireland U21s.

United striker Brett Williams came off against Chester but he is expected to be fit enough to play a part. Jakub Sokolik missed Friday’s match through illness and TUFC head coach Gary Owers speculated after Friday’s game that Monday’s might come too soon for him.

We’ll be having a collection for former United midfielder Damon Lathrope before kick-off on Monday. Lathrope has had to retire from the game and is in the midst of a challenging recovery from a broken leg sustained against Boreham Wood.
