United haven’t got long to wait to get back out onto a football pitch and right the wrongs of Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to AFC Fylde. They travel to Sutton United for Tuesday night’s 7:45pm kick-off.

Sutton United are currently in 3rd place in the National League table. They go into Tuesday night’s match on the back of back-to-back wins over Solihull Moors and Halifax Town. Ross Lafayette scored two in Saturday’s 3-2 win over the Shaymen and Craig Dundas took his tally to six National League goals so far this season. Striker Bradley Hudson-Odoi joined Eastleigh on a two-month loan deal on Monday.

“Obviously they play on an artificial surface, which is something that shouldn’t be new to us,” said Torquay United head coach, Gary Owers. “All the lads have played on that type of pitch before. That shouldn’t be any excuse.

“They’re a team that appears to be playing a little bit more direct this season. They get it forward early. It is going to be a test.”

Owers is familiar with the Sutton United’ manager Paul Doswell and their head coach, Ian Baird.

“I know both of them, ‘Dos’ [Paul Doswell] and Ian Baird, who is a former teammate. I’ve got a lot of time for both of them. Their manager has been very helpful to me in the past. I’ve got a good relationship with Ian Baird although that goes out the window in every sense of the word with Ian when the first whistle goes, because he is a fierce competitor.”

Changes to the team have been occupying the Gaffer’s thoughts since Saturday’s results.

“I’m thinking about the team, I have to. Trying to solve the problem of scoring goals. It might be time to give someone else an opportunity. I’ve got a good idea of what the team’s going to be, but I still need to think about one or two things overnight.”

United have to contend with a couple of injuries from Saturday’s match.

“There’s a couple of players on the treatment table. One won’t make it but I’d rather not say who that is at this stage. Other than Jake Gosling, and George Dowling, everybody else should be available.”
