United take the positives from Saturday’s performance against Dagenham & Redbridge into Tuesday night’s National League encounter against Maidenhead United at Plainmoor.

United created enough clear chances against the Daggers to hope that they can turn a series of results that has left the team bottom of the league with just four points. One thing is for certain, we will need the help of the Yellow Army to get through this difficult period.

Torquay United head coach Gary Owers is familiar with Maidenhead after playing them last season when Bath manager.

“They are a big, strong, organized, competitive team with a couple of match-winners in there too,” said Owers. “They’ll be a threat, set-plays especially, but it is what we do on the night. Dave Tarpey scored a lot of goals for them last season, and he has moved on to Barnet, thankfully.

The message coming across is an obvious but pertinent one. The team needs to start winning soon.

“I keep talking about winning every day, on the training ground. I keep trying to get across to the players that we have to win. I’m bothered how we do it at the moment, but we are trying to play with some organization and structure. It is about doing it on the night and seeing if them three magical points can give everyone a boost.

“It is easy for me; I’m only three games in. This has been going on for longer than this season. There has been a downward spiral since the club went out of the league. It is something that we are going to have to fix long-term. I’m looking for a quick fix to try and make this squad win a game.

Waiting for the form to turn is as frustrating for the new Gaffer as it has been for the Yellow Army.

“They are good lads, there are no wrong-uns in there. I think they need a win to find a bit of confidence and find a bit of belief.”

United head into the fixture in the same shape as Saturday. Yan Klukowski is the closest to returning from injury, but Ryan Clarke, Jordan Lee, Sam Chaney, Jon-Paul Pittman, and George Dowling are all unavailable.
