United look to keep their unbeaten run under the management of Gary Johnson going away to Eastbourne Borough on Saturday (13/10/18 | 3pm KO)

Saturday is Non-League Day and the Yellow Army can gain entry for £5 if they have a valid season ticket for a Premier League team.

Torquay United Gary Johnson was asked whether fans should support their local team at Thursday’s press call.

“It’s very, very important,” said Gary. “But as with anything else, you have to give supporters something to get behind. You just have to produce a product that they’re happy to support. The better it gets, the more support you get.”

The Gaffer is eager to see the positivity surrounding the team continue.

“It’s a competitive game and sometimes people aren’t on form, sometimes they do have a bit of a nightmare. It’s at those times that I always say “watch the player change if he gets positive support”. If he does, then he will, if he’s got the quality. I’m sure every club in the land wants positive support if they can. Not everyone can give it because not everyone’s team is doing well. It’s just the nature of the game.”

Eastbourne present a stern test of the progress United have shown under Johnson so far.

“I’ve watched quite a few of their [Eastbourne’s] games in the last couple of days. I’ve watched a lot of highlights because that’s where their strengths are, and then you see some of their weaknesses, obviously the goals that they have let in. I haven’t seen a mug team, yet, in this league. Most teams can have their day at this level. Most teams have one or two players that can win a football match. They’re a threat, we have to give them all the respect that they need. Otherwise you are going there and taking them lightly, and I’d never do that to anyone.”

Samir Nabi suffered a setback in his recovery from injury during the week. Connor Lemonheigh-Evans has been called up by the Wales U21 team and will be absent until next week. United do not have any new injury concerns heading into Saturday’s match.
