The Yellow Army welcome Gary Johnson to Plainmoor for his first home game on Saturday. United face top of the table Woking FC in a match that the Gaffer has already described as a ‘six-pointer’.

Woking have set the pace so far in the National League South this season. They have racked up 7 wins, one draw, and two defeats from their ten games scoring 17 goals.

“Saturday’s a very, very big test for us,” said Johnson at his Thursday morning press call. “They’re [Woking] a Conference team in the waiting, in my opinion. It will be good for me to see our boys against the top team in our league at the moment because of the points that they have got.

“We’ll be ready, I know our supporters will be ready. I’ve been reading all the bits and pieces and they seem happy with the way things are going at the moment. We owe it to them to make sure that we keep it going and we keep the enthusiasm and excitement. I’m excited to see the crowd because I know every time I’ve come here Torquay supporters have been very loud with their team. I’ve said a couple of times that they’re going to be our 12th man on Saturday. If we can get a great atmosphere the lads will show their form a lot easier.

“I just know that it’s been a really good build-up to the first home game. If  we can show the Club as one, that’s really what we’re trying to achieve. That’s the thing I’d like to see most of all where they’re singing the players’ names and they’re happy with the players’ performances and their efforts. We’re here for the supporters; they’re the ones that pay the money.”

The goodwill factor has grown since Johnson took charge, especially after two wins. He wants the full support of the Yellow Army behind him, his staff, and the team, as long as they show they are worthy.

“I don’t think it takes that much time when people see that the management, players, are genuine in their cause. The manager shows that in sort of words, but also action as well. The players definitely show it in action. Reidy’s [Jamie Reid] has come off a couple of times in two of my games and they’ve sung his name each time he’s come off. It’s easily changed – supporters want to see an effort, and if they see that effort and they get the effort, then I know these boys have got the technical ability to do very well at this level. Let’s hope it all comes together on Saturday.

United do not have anyone returning from injury for Saturday’s match and United return to a having a maximum of five substitutes after the FA Cup last Saturday.

If you haven’t made it to Plainmoor so far this season, tomorrow would be a great match to break your duck… See you there.
