United face Barrow on Saturday in Gary Owers’ first game since taking charge on Thursday.

Gary and his assistant, Martin Kuhl, took their first press conference on Thursday. The message was to get three points on the board as quickly as possible.

“At the minute, we’ve got to come up with something that is going to get us three points,” said Owers. “That is the most important thing at the minute, to get that first win on the board, and to try and lift everyone’s spirits.”

Owers is also hopeful that he will be able to call upon new signings to boost his squad.

United’s injury list hasn’t alleviated too much since Tuesday 3-1 defeat to Bromley. Josh Gowling may make the squad after being rested on Saturday as part of his return to action. Sam Chaney and Damon Lathrope are closer to being available for selection. Bournemouth defender Jordan Lee remains with his parent club as he continues his recovery from suffering chest pains. Yan Klukowski , Liam Davis, and Ryan Clarke continue to work on their respective recovery programmes.

Barrow have had managerial upheaval of their own this season. Manager Paul Cox left the club near the end of August. Cox’s assistant, Micky Moore, took the reins before being joined at the Bluebirds by former Grimsby boss Marcus Bignot, who joined as his assistant.

Barrow picked up a win, three draws, and a defeat under the stewardship of Cox. Since Moore took over they suffered defeat to AFC Fylde in his first game before beating Boreham Wood, losing to Tranmere, and then a goalless draw against Guiseley at home leads them into Saturday’s match.

A round trip to Barrow represents a 692-mile journey for the first team and the Yellow Army. Hopefully we will return with three points!

Torquay United Ladies play at Plainmoor on Sunday. They face Bournemouth in the second round of the FA Cup in a 2pm kick-off. We’re looking to make it two wins out of two in a doubleheader for Torquay United.
